The Koo’s Giving Charitable Foundation (the “Koo Foundation”) was established in 2010 in memory of my late parents Mr. and Mrs. Koo Ling Ching. We aim to offer a helping hand to people in need, especially less privileged children who deserve a better opportunity to develop and live a rewarding life as productive members of the community.
My father came to Hong Kong from Shanghai in the aftermath of the World War II. He worked his way up as an apprentice in a chemical manufacturing industry and went on to build a successful business empire covering real estate development, financial investment, trading and agency services.
In tribute to my parents, the Koo Foundation works proactively with non-profits organizations in Hong Kong and Singapore and has sponsored educational and training programs that help children and youth with special education needs (“SEN”), develop work and social skills, and improve the quality of their lives.
The number of SEN children and youth are soaring in the past few decades, particularly those with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Early detection and intervention would significantly help to contain their deterioration and improve their lives, as proven by global researches, greatly improve their symptoms and development. It is important to raise greater awareness in the community and encourage parents, teachers and relevant stakeholders to render appropriate care and trainings to children at the most crucial stage of their development. Unfortunately, due to the lack of services and/or resources, many of these children go without receiving early intervention. Besides, their parents and teachers are also under tremendous stress and in desperate need for professional support.
The Koo Foundation endeavors to fund deserving organizations and projects to provide the much needed services and educational programs which we believe will bring fundamental changes in the lives of these children and their families, the schools and the community.
We are grateful to our partner organizations and look forward to welcoming more new friends who share our mission and are willing to join hands with the Koo Foundation to create a better environment for our children; thereby, contributing to a more inclusive society.
