January 2025 – December 2029
For many of Hong Kong's underserved communities, accessing basic dental care is a source of anxiety and pain. Statistics also highlight this urgent crisis, as 70% of patients with special needs (including the physically disabled) haven't seen a dentist in over three years despite experiencing chronic tooth pain. This neglect isn't a choice, but the result of structural barriers. Most conventional dental clinics lack the ample space, specialised equipment, or accessible facilities necessary to comfortably treat individuals with disabilities, especially wheelchair users.

That is why the Koo Foundation is proud to join fellow funders in supporting the Cancer Support Society Smile Dental Centre Limited to launch The "Smile With Teeth" Project. This strategic collaboration allows us to pool resources, share expertise, and amplify our impact, ensuring that professional, compassionate, and affordable dental care is finally within reach. Together, we are turning years of silent suffering into healthy smiles.
Programme Details
The Cancer Support Society Smile Dental Centre Limited is a caring organisation dedicated to providing charitable dental services to Hong Kong's underserved communities, including cancer survivors, individuals with disabilities, SEN children, and the elderly. Their work in bridging critical healthcare gaps through affordable treatments, oral health education, and holistic support is highly commendable.

Our shared programme is rooted in the global Achieve 8020 mission, which promotes the maintenance of at least 20 functioning natural teeth by the age of 80. The programme in its first two years aims to enrich the lives of 2,000 SEN students, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers through subsidised oral health workshops and essential tools for dental wellness.
By ensuring a facility that is truly wheelchair-accessible and equipped to accommodate all complex needs, we are removing the physical and financial obstacles that have kept care out of reach. This support is the foundation for a better life, ensuring brighter smiles and a profoundly enhanced quality of life. It is the key to empowering thousands to develop the essential social skills and future learning ability they need, built on a bedrock of improved health and confidence.
